If its not a bad earth the next likely suspect is one of the rear brake / tail bulbs itself, the filaments may have shorted. The LED taillights I have are Philips Vision. The lights are pointed back, which works well with the reflectors in the Escape's taillight housing. The lights are smart enough to distinguish between tail and brake lights so I don't have a problem with them not working at night. Install was easy, literally just plugged them in and they worked fine.
